I'm not a big fan of Apple, and bought a Nexus One a year back. Nice ideas, indifferently executed. Lots of small problems, never adequately addressed.

Since I wanted to use prepaid AT&T in the USA and other carriers' SIMs in other countries, I looked for a factory unlocked iPhone 4 via Amazon. Got one, tried prepaid AT&T, worked fine over 3G. I cut down a prepaid T-Mobile (USA) SIM, and it worked fine over Edge. Tried a Movistar SIM in Buenos Aires, and it's great over 3G.

The iPhone is a beautiful device and it works for me. Most of the Google apps (on which I depend) are now available, and work well. The iPhone holds WiFi connections where the Nexus drops them. I could go on.

I will continue to use the Nexus in the USA, but mostly because prepaid T-Mobile is superior to prepaid AT&T in some areas. The iPhone may be an exercise in megalomaniacal vanity, but it came out right. Full Review
